Collaborative Practice is a process of resolving family disputes that does not include adversarial techniques. Using a cooperative model of negotiation, the attorneys and their clients undertake an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving. In a collaborative process, a team of professionals is assembled to work with the family to make the divorce process as smooth and amicable as possible. The team includes attorneys, coaches, a child specialist, and a financial expert – all trained in the collaborative process. Both parties and their attorneys agree not to use the court to resolve disputes during the Collaborative process. Instead, counsel assist the clients in achieving resolution of their conflict in a manner that supports the family as a whole and the clients in their interests.
